Drummer Vanderlei Pereira is a standout artist on the contemporary Brazilian jazz scene, celebrated for his deep command of Brazilian rhythms, dazzling technique, and unique musical voice. His ability to seamlessly blend traditional Brazilian styles like samba, baião, maracatú, and MPB with jazz and Latin influences has made him a highly versatile and sought-after collaborator.

Vanderlei’s extensive career includes performances and recordings with legendary figures such as Toots Thielemans, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim, Tito Puente, Bebel Gilberto, Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, Claudio Roditi, and Anat Cohen. His rhythmic creativity and dynamic touch have earned praise from critics and peers alike, notably highlighted in Modern Drummer for his work on Nando Lauria’s Points of View.

As leader of the Brazilian jazz sextet Blindfold Test, Vanderlei brings forward his original compositions alongside contemporary Brazilian repertoire, showcasing his innovative approach to rhythm and ensemble interplay. Their debut album Vision for Rhythm (2020) reflects his broad musical vision and commitment to expanding the language of Brazilian jazz.
